Canvas Printing

We can transform your digitial photos into stunning, bespoke pieces of artwork for you to display in your home or workplace. We are experts at producing large reproductions from digital photos and use only the highest quality, 415gsm, 100% cotton, acid free, matt white artist canvas. This materials coating actually becomes water resistant after it has been printed. We do not compromise by opting for cheaper materials offered by some companies as these have a tendancy for the coating to crack when stretched.

Canvas Printing

Printing

Your canvas print will be printed on one of our 64" Epson 11880 printers at 1440dpi. These printers have 9 colours, 4 of which are shades of black and use the industry standard pigmented (fade resistant) UltraChrome K3 inks. These printers offers one of the highest degrees of accuracy, quality and richness of colours available from any fine art printer available today and Epson expects their UltraChrome K3 inks to have a life expectancy in excess of 100 years when out of direct sunlight.

Varnishing

Once printed we will give your canvas 2-3 coats of a matt giclée varnish. This special protective coating will help to protect your print from dirt and scratches and enables it to be gently wiped clean with a damp cloth, it also offers the print even greater longevity and enhanced uv stability.

Stretching

After your canvas has been varnished and allowed to thoroughly dry, it is carefully hand-stretched over an exhibition quality, 36mm deep x 59mm wide, extra-strong laminated pine frame which has been sourced from managed pine forests in Europe.

Some companies use cheaper alternative lengths of 'green' wood can warp and distort your canvas. Our stretcher frames have mitred corners and utilise a pair of adjustable wooden wedges in each corner to ensure the stretched canvas always remains drum tight. If one side of your frame exceeds 1000mm we will also use a single crossbrace, or where both sides are over 1000mm, double crossbraces.

Two types of hand-stretched finish are available, the most commonly used is 'Gallery Wrapped' where your
image is carried over the sides and stapled neatly onto the back of the frame or 'Edge Wrapped'. Edge wrapping is where the image stops short of wrapping around the sides, these can either remain white or can be printed with another base colour of your choice.

Frames are supplied complete and 'ready-to-hang' with either a hanging wire attached or, for very large and heavy frames, we attach special fixing plates with 'keyhole' slots to each corner.

Please Note: It is very difficult to produce a 100% accurate edge wrapped canvas and a small portion of either the sides or the front can creep over. It is for this reason that we advise against choosing the edge wrap option.
